WThe cornerstone of our dojo is our adult karate program. We practice traditional Okinawan karate, which was developed for practical self defense. In these classes, you'll learn and practice kata (forms), kumite (2-person drills), bunkai (self-defense applications of our kata), and henka (street-based self-defense techniques).
Classes are primarily taught by Hanshi Roberto Curtis, 9th dan and are open to men and women.
Class Days and Times:
Our women's self-defense karate program follows the same curriculum as our adult shidokan karate program, but classes are focused on techniques that are particularly applicable for women's self-defense.
These classes provide a safe and welcoming environment for women to start their karate journey, to learn to defend themselves, and to build confidence inside and outside the dojo.
Classes are taught by Denise Coursey, 4th degree black belt in shidokan karate. Contact Denise at denise@okinawankarateforwomen.com for more information or visit www.okinawankarateforwomen.com for additional class times and information.
Women's Self-Defense Karate:
Our Mom-Teen Self-Defense program (ages 12 and up) was designed for tween and teen girls to help them build the confidence and skills they need to stand up for themselves as they enter middle school and high-school. Teens can attend on their own or with their mothers! Women+ of all ages can attend.
We show girls and women that they are powerful, by teaching practical self-defense based on physics, anatomy, physiology, and psychology. So it's effective no matter your size or your opponent's size. Best of all, we make learning self-defense fun.
Classes are taught by Senpai Denise Coursey, 4th degree black belt in shidokan karate. Contact Denise at denise@okinawankarateforwomen.com for more information or visit okinawankarateforwomen.com for additional class times and information.
Mom-Teen Self-Defense:
